About us and our goals
Muslim Students – SU is an organisation that encompasses students studying at Stockholm University (including all departments) and the Stockholm Institute of Education (Lärarhögskolan) . Our goal is to provide students who are interested in Islam with the opportunity to meet one another and to encourage dialogue. We wish to promote both individual and collective development through a wide array of activities held during the year.
The goals of Muslim Students - SU include working to increase awareness of Islam and Muslims. Through this, we hope to generate tolerance and understanding towards diverse modes of thought. Muslim Students- SU will endeavour to strengthen, develop and endorse the integration of the Muslim identity in Sweden. We will work towards this goal until it is considered as natural to be both a Muslim and Swedish without there needing to be a contradiction between these two identities.
Activities
”Muslims are spoken of, not to” – this is the way that the orientalists reasoned. It is a deeply rooted mindset in our part of the world that is kept alive to this very day. We will strive to shatter this mindset through dialogue. And it is above all dialogue that will be the keyword steering the organisation.
Among the activities planned for this year are:
· The Green Room - monthly seminars
· Social activities (such as picnics and dinners)
· Ramadan – a time for unity and joy with
· Eid celebrations – the highlight of the Islamic year
· Study-circles with a focus on Islam
· Lectures and debates
· A sponsorship program for exchange students
· Homework aid - for young people who need help with homework
Membership
The organisation is targeted for you who wants to get to know other Muslims, engage yourself for Islam and Muslims at the university level or maybe just want to know more about Islam.
We are a few enthusiastic students who are wholeheartedly dedicated to this organisation. We invite all interested students to join us. Participation and involvement are the driving forces of any organisation! Let’s join forces - Become a member today!
